Professional obligations over the weekend have slowed us (okay: me, Matt Wiegle, the art-drawing person) down. By way of a short snack before the actual meal, here’s a sample of what a page looks like in the middle of the coloring process:
And here’s why: I knew I was drawing an ice mountain, and that a lot of the panel was going to have a relatively narrow range of color and value. In order to get the shapes and hatching right without getting confused by simultaneously working with umpty-million shades of blue, I drew each plane of the background in its own palette. Once I was done, I color-swapped everything into the range of blues and blue-greens seen here.
